About Me

My photo
I was motivated to start a blog by reading all the wonderful talented individual's who have blogs out there. So, I want to make this blog about everyone who reads it. My family and God always comes first in my life. I want to share my experiences and in turn, hope to get feedback and ideas from you. I love unique things, I adore anything that sparkles (not over the top though) I love decorating, cooking, gardening, photography and shopping. My number one passion is photography! To me it becomes more than a picture, it can become a piece of art, or a beautiful memory. Decorating, though I am not a professional, and don't claim to be, has been a part of my life since I was very young, and just love searching and shopping for new ideas and incorporate the old, such as Mid-Century Modern and Hollywood Regency with contemporary. Living close to the Gulf of Mexico in Florida, and being of Hispanic heritage, I love cooking Mexican food, and love to share my authentic recipes. Though I live in Florida, my heart is in the desert southwest, and hope that my family and I will return there very soon…keep your fingers crossed that my prayers are answered SOON!!!

Where I Blog and do my photography from....

Over the last several weeks, I’ve been working diligently on our family photographs for un upcoming family reunion.  Since I am the electronics and photography junky in our family, I was asked to compile thousands of old and new photographs of my wonderful family and put them on a CD for the entire family…we’re talking well over 100 CD’s, In the process of working on these photographs, which were given to me from my older family members, such as my Aunts, I’ve been assisting my cousin in Texas on our Family Cookbook.  To say the least, I’ve spent many of hours here in my “Relax” room, scanning, and editing some photos from the mid to late 1800’s…it’s been a challenge to remove scratches, bends, discoloration, etc., and make them as clear as possible,  but I’ve loved every minute of it.  The cookbook is a beautiful book of hundreds of recipes and some handwritten from my beautiful Grandmother and other family members and includes numerous family photos.  I still have three weeks to complete this project, though, I am starting to worry that it won’t get done, so many photos, but I know that it is very important to my family, so I will stay up late each night, and work on the weekends, until it is done.  I guess this is what some call a labor of Love!!!
My Relax room is very simple, but I love the Ralph Lauren metallic paint in the brown tone, it reflect light, and shadows, though it’s not an extra-large room, it has everything I need right there.   Yes, I have two computers going at once, and even my iPad, for those quick e-mails, that I need to send and not get out of my photo editing programs.  I think I can call myself a multi-tasker for sure!!!  As you can see from the photos, there is an area that I did not take a picture of….well, that’s because that has one huge box of nothing but photos, and I must say, it’s not the neatest area of the room…with all the discovery of new photographs and sorting…nope, I’ll keep that hid for now – I really try to keep it organized, but that is almost an impossible task.
Well, back to scanning more photographs…wish me luck; I’m going to need it.

    ....and the cookbook!

Are you playing music while you do this project? That can help a lot!

I'm just getting used to Florida's nutty, ucky weather.. The humidity mostly because I've lived in both TX Hot Desert and very cold Midwestern areas.. after snow for 6 months of the year we got out of there...haha
Now to figure out how to garden in this tropical climate....
Thanks so much for stopping by and I'll be around to see your future posts...

  7. Thank you to all the sweet comments...it's been a huge project, but so worth the beautiful family photos that I am able to restore and keep safely on CDs for the whole family to enjoy. I'm giving myself one more week to have this project complete - hope that is enough time. But tonight is my date night with my husband, and I'm ready for a night out on the town...Hope everyone has a great weekend!!! And, thank you again.

  8. How nice of you to take on that project. I moved to the US when I was 6 from El Salvador to escape the civil war so I don't have any photos of my ancestors and so forth. I am hoping that through blogging I can document some of my life in case I ever get to have kids etc. But it sure is so special for you to have such treasures to go through the 1800s WOW! Your office looks so neat and tidy despite your huge project. Hope it is going well, it would be awesome to take a peek at some of those old photos. :)

  9. Your "relax" room is gorgeous. I love the paint color on the walls, and I really love the colors in the 3 paintings/pictures on the white shelf. You are definitely working on a labor of love for the cookbook and the photo cds you are putting together. I hope you get it all done, I'm sure you will! Bless your heart for taking on such a huge project. I know we would do anything for our families. :)

  10. Laura, I'm so sorry about not having any pictures of your ancestors, but believe it or not, my Aunt who did our entire family tree (which took numerous years), did find some through Ancestory.com, and a few other places. I'm not sure if they were all from when they arrived in this country or not though. My entire family, laughs at me because no matter who comes to my home or wherever I go, I always have my camera...documenting memories. Thank you for the sweet comment on my Relax room, it's where I go to escape and just unwind. Sorry it's taken so long to write back, still working on these family CD's...and have long way to go - the reunion is next weekend...yipes!!

  11. Nicolle, it was so sweet of you to comment on my Relax room as well. As I've said, it's my place to go in the house to do my photograhpy, Blog, and to keep in touch with my family...or just relax on the day bed and watch and good ol' classis movie. I'm still working on the CD's, the cookbook is done, and it's amazing (my cousin did all that, except the photographs), she's a Texan as well...and will be here tomorrow. Though it's very warm here, the reunion in on the water and we have two huge shelters...can't wait to be with family, they are everything to me. Thank you again, so much for your comments...

  12. Hi! Thanks for your lovely comments on my new hair color! You are sweet!

Two projects at once is a lot of work and committment! I love the idea of a Family Cookbook! I love to cook and bake and would love to make a cookbook! I have no recipes really! I follow and use recipes from my collection of cookbooks and cooking magazines! How do you go about in making and publishing a cookbook? Good luck on your endeavor!!! We got some rain just a little but at least the temps dropped some. Now it is back to normal heat!!! LOL!
